Holdouts

By Gabriel Palacios

nine volt taste
of Astrovan sweat
of tumbleweed tethering the child’s white sock
of piss rust Fanta
dollar store plastic bags from China bid
thank you thank you thank you
thank you

thoughts flit weak
the juice of a warm orange
pools in the saddle
of a boot

at stealth stations
of a trans sonora bullet train
of dormant frog’s emergent claw
and wasps at war

           holdouts
we await orders from a shuttered command
