An Interview with Cristina Vega, "The Language of Plants"

What do you find appealing about the short story form?

I like that it really demands that you say a lot in a restricted word limit. Since most short stories are over so quickly, it really resonates with the reader on what they've just read.

What influenced this piece?
It came from a rewrite of a less-than-stellar first draft that superficially touched upon the matter of connections and social awkwardness. With the help of criticism I was able to revise my writing into the story you see today.

Which writer/body of work has informed your writing and/or inspired you?
Franz Kafka, Carson McCullers, Juniot Diaz, and Adam Rapp are some of my most esteemed influences.
