Landscape, Interrupted

By Jude Marr

A shirttail-sail swells
desert-bright and blooming
around a dead boy’s desiccated ribs—

boy’s story: glory, sacrificed

no tears—

know this:
pity’s barbs won’t corral
suffering, or
shred old scripts.
