By Nick DePascal

From Woman and Man Dreaming

The man dreams of a hatchet
and an old wound opens in
the dark—nocturnal flower
with sharp teeth. He expects
the worst from the weather.
To be unfastened by the wind.
To have his exposed organs
rained on. To bang against
the house like a rusted gate.
To know nothing and not know it.

Nick DePascal lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, son, three dogs, and four chickens. His first book, Before You Become Improbable, was published by West End Press last year.
